Casa Verde, Andalucia, Spain (sleeps 2-8)
This village house is found in a quiet cul-de-sac, overlooking the river, in the village of Sanlucar de Guadiana. On entry, the large hall with old patterned floor tiles, is lined with books and immediately gives the feeling of home.
Off the hallway are the double bedroom with the family bathroom opposite. A corridor with some steps leads to two further bedrooms, one super-king size bedded room with ensuite shower, w.c and wash basin; and one king size bedded room with ensuite shower, w.c. and wash basin. A door from this bedroom also leads out onto the patio and garden where there is also an outdoor shower.
The double height living room, with wood burner, opens onto the inner courtyard and is cool in the summer and warm and cosy in the winter. The inner courtyard has a seat just for one – nicely tucked away in a corner surrounded by the courtyard foliage – banana plant, bamboo, and bay tree give the sense of being in a different world!
The final (4th) bedroom with its super-king size bed overlooks the lower terrace, and comes complete with an en-suite shower, w.c and wash basin.
All 4 bedrooms and the living room are air conditioned.
The large kitchen with fridge, microwave, gas oven and gas hob comes complete with juicer and ice cream machine! Plenty of space to work and plenty of space to store everything – a great spot. There is also a little utility area complete with washing machine and freezer.
From the kitchen, you enter the covered lower terrace, with a large dining area and open fire – soooo cosy! Here there is a second fridge and drinks area. There is also a great view from the table to the river and the boats sailing by. At the other end of this terrace, a big comfy seating area gives you a living room outdoors, complete with rambling grapevine and twinkle fairy lights. Just perfect for that drink in the evenings…
Behind the dining room there are two sets of stairs, take one and you arrive at the sunbathing terrace – a lovely big rooftop space to catch those rays! or take the other and you arrive into the garden with its private plunge pool and decking terrace. Here you’ll also find a hammock and an outdoor cinema for those balmy evenings when you want to do nothing!
Like many of the village houses, the garden/field with its fig trees, orange trees and olive trees is a short walk outside the village. Following the path along the river, you will pass by the many ‘fincas’ and gardens of the other village houses.
After about 40 minutes, you will find ours – on the river bank and with its own little finca house, this is the perfect place to laze in the hammock, or have a picnic. Generally green in most seasons, the summer drought does mean that the garden is more brown in summer!
